LFW/MFW: Hair Edit

Ok, so I know Fashion month is mainly about the clothes but recently I have been obsessing over my hair - trying new hairstyles, getting it dyed for the first time in my life (better late than never right?) and just generally wanting to jazz it up a bit - with LFW/MFW being the perfect inspiration.

You probably know as well as I do that those early mornings can be a real struggle when it comes to actually making an effort with your hair. Most of the time I just feel like rolling out of bed and turning up to work with my hair well... looking like I just got out of bed and went to work. So, I'm sure you'll all be pleased to know that at LFW Holly Fulton brought back the bed head in a fresh way sending models down the runway with their hair jujjed (how do you spell that?!) up at the back. Shortly after, Alexa Chung posted an instagram photo showing off her new bed head look - if it's good enough for Alexa, it's good enough for me!

After many attempts I've finally managed to master my french braid pigtails and I'm kind of looking for a new challenge. When I saw these graphic pigtails sported by the models at Marni, I instantly fell in love. Sometimes, when I wear my hair in pigtails/plaits I feel I look a tad childish but I like how this achieves a sleek, grown up look and is relatively easy to replicate!

What were your favourite looks from the London and Milan fashion weeks?

A Trip to London

As you probably all know  over the last two weeks it has been pretty busy in the fashion world with London Fashion Week and London Fashion Weekend, which as Fashion Management students at Robert Gordon University we were lucky enough to attend! After getting up at 3am for the flight, mastering the tube and locating the hotel, we got to experience everything London had to offer including the night life a bit of sightseeing and a fashion show at Somerset House. It was definitely a worth while trip!

For anyone who is not familiar with London Fashion Weekend it's basically a massive fashion showcase featuring designer shopping, pop-up shops, hair and beauty, expert advice sessions and a fashion show which focused on upcoming trends (see below), all within the beautiful setting of Somerset House. This was a great opportunity for us to experience the atmosphere of a catwalk show (and a free goodie bag is always a plus!).

Trends Featured in the Catwalk

To the catwalk show I decided to wear some of my new purchases from back in Aberdeen which can be seen below.

Jacket - Marks & Spencer
Shorts - Miss Selfridge
Boots - Internationale
*I actually wore a shirt on the day which
you can see in the previous photo
which is from Asos...if anyone is interested.

After a random trip through Marks & Spencer I spotted this jacket, even though I hardly ever buy things from here I loved the pattern, the tailored fit and the asymmetric zip detailing. I also loved these shorts from Miss Selfridge that I think add a nice pop of colour as we move towards Spring.

Overall, our trip to London was a success and I will definitely be looking into plans to go back in the Summer. Check out my next post for some of my purchases from London!

Braid it up!

The plait/braid has always been a classic hairstyle, creating a neat, knotted, effortless look! As far as I can remember the plait was a favourite of my childhood hairstyles - every school photo featuring the perfectly plaited look. More recently, it has gone from gracing the school playgrounds to becoming a serious fashion trend. After months of skipping hair cuts, I have finally managed to grow my hair long enough to attempt this style and I have definitely fallen in love with this quick, easy and effortless look!

The best way to attempt this style is to follow a tutorial/video which takes you through step by step. It took me a couple of practises as it can be a bit more tricky than a classic plait! These youtube tutorials below are very helpful so I would recommend taking a look...

After mastering the fishtail braid I got a little more adventurous creating a new hairstyle inspired by another YouTube tutorial. This plait creates the effect of  a cage around your ponytail which I thought was a bit different and eye-catching. I first started off with a basic ponytail, covering the hair band by rapping a piece of my hair around it (as seen in photo 1).

A tutorial on how to create this look can be found here...

Braids can be a bit tricky but keep practising and you can create something cool and interesting. Have fun!

If you tried any of the above or have any other styles for me to try then feel free to comment below!
